Introduction

The 12th Portsmouth International Kite Festival had beautiful warm weather, blue skies and enough wind to keep all the kite fliers happy. There were some fantastic displays and demonstrations, particularly the array of large inflatable kites and the Revolution Megateams. There was so much here that this report is split onto two pages. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Peter Lynn

Peter Lynn had a busy weekend. He flew his new design Flag kites only to be told that the Union Jack was actually 'flying in distress' i.e. the wrong way up (oops). Then he had his hat auctioned off on Saturday night (bought by a member of Team Flic). He was given a new spangly purple hat to wear, apparently salvaged from the field on Sunday morning, which he proceeded to wear for the whole day. What a jolly good sport.

Single Line Kites

There were so many different single line kites to be seen this year at Portsmouth, including the Sun Kite by Pedro Gonzalez of Valencia, Spain, which won the Kite Society award for 'Best Emergency Sunlight' (not that it was needed much with this weather). It was Pedro's first time ever in England, and with his brother Esteban they brought a bit of Spanish sunshine to Portsmouth...

Kite fliers from all over Europe participated, including Bernhard Dingwerth of Germany with his Lurchi and Lucifer kites, the Didak family from Belgium, Jos Valcke, Marco Casadio, Janneke Groen from Holland, Gruppo Aquilonisti Vunlandra, as well as members of the Brighton Kite Fliers, the Midlands Kite Fliers, Avon Kite Fliers and White Horse Kite Fliers amongst others.
