4th Streatham Common Kite DaySunday 22nd April 2001Location: Streatham
Common, South London. Good winds and a lovely sunny day - just what we were all hoping for! The weather brought lots of people out to the 4th Streatham Common Kite Day. Already by 11am the common was busy with families, spectators and kite fliers enjoying the sunshine and the friendly atmosphere. The Robertshaws' kites dominated the flying area - the huge Airforms with long tails flew high in the sky. Andrew Beattie's Veronica joined in the fun too, and soon had plenty of children in awe at her size. There were demonstrations of trick flying, precision flying, Indian fighter kites, impromptu team Revolution displays and even a bit of traction kiting. The children's kite making workshop was so popular that they ran out of supplies - so too did Dunstable Kites, who managed to sell all their kids kites! Well done to Bob Colover for organising what is likely to be the only London kite festival this year! The photos are below - click on any picture to see a larger version.
